My Terrific Wonderful, Esthetic, Dental Restoration

(Or Wishing my whole 58 year old body could get the kind of Make-Over that you provided for my teeth)

Dr. William D. Harrison DDS and Dr. John Song DDS are the most terrific professionals. Not only does this Practice provide superlative dental care but the utmost in restorative dentistry. I had a truly magnificent experience. Please read on…

At 29 years of age, I developed pain in a molar. It required a root canal. A month later, the tooth developed a vertical crack. It could not be saved and required extraction. Over the next 17 years, I had two bridges both of which failed and caused nothing but discomfort. Finally I gave up thinking that nothing could be done. In the mean time, I had several ill fitting crowns, contributing to food packing and the early stages of gum disease; and numerous root canals. Finally at 55 years of age, I had a double root canal. These teeth were badly deteriorated and needed restoration or they were destined to fail. I was in desperate need of real attention. In general my teeth were a horror story… I was not planning on “checking out” in the near future and I knew my teeth were really limiting my quality of life.

I had other problems as well. I had a severe overbite. I was very self conscious about my smile and always zipped my mouth closes for photos or when smiling. This is not a great way to exude self confidence. On my left side, the upper top molars did not meet the bottom molars, so these teeth proved useless when chewing.

After researching dentists and prosthodontists on the westside and the S.F. Valley, I chose the practice of Dr. Harrison and his associate, Dr. John Song. They both studied my case and patiently explained my options. I learned that Dr. Song was a prosthodontist. Dr. Song is one of a handful of expert prosthodontists. He had four years of post graduate training in restoring and replacing teeth. This included perfecting the surgical techniques that provides a permanent solution for tooth loss using prosthetic dental implants. Dr. Harrison also has extensive training and experience in Prosthodontics and actually taught prosthodontics at UCLA for 20 years. I knew I had a great office.

First Dr. Harrison worked on adjacent lateral incisor and canine teeth. These teeth were decaying, severely damaged and very weak. He reinforced the weakened teeth with a metal post placed deep in the root while a foundation was constructed around the top to accept a crown. This sounds simple but the process required many steps and took over 5 hours of intensive dental work. I was amazed at the outcome. I walked out of the office with a temporary crown and with two teeth that I thought could never be saved. After over two years, these teeth are perfect.

After this experience, I elected to undergo a total dental restoration. Literally all 27 of my remaining teeth would need to be crowned while a dental implant would replace my missing second premolar. Restoration is really not an event but a very involved process spanning many months.

I can only approximate the steps involved:

First impressions were taken and a beautiful set new set of teeth were designed specifically for my mouth. Old crowns were removed and my teeth were reshaped to accept new crowns. Temporary acrylic crowns were put in place. This was done for both the top and bottom teeth using temporary acrylic renditions of my new teeth. This allowed me to assimilate the “feel” of my new teeth. Next the titanium post that served as foundation for my missing tooth was implanted and allowed to grow into my jaw for three months. Twenty seven of the final crowns were then cemented in place. The last step was attaching the abutment and the crown to the post.

I would like to provide a few words about the surgical dental implant process. I drove to the implant on a Saturday morning with some trepidation. After all I was going

Both my husband and I have had extensive treatment from Dr. Song over the last two years. We have been very impressed by his meticulous work and his nursing and support team were fantastic. The great thing was he told us what was needed, how it would all work out and that made many hours in the chair all worthwhile. I have no hesitation in recommending Dr. Song and his team.

Doctor John Song has been my dentist for over six years. Our relationship began at UCLA College of Dentistry where he gave me a full mouth restoration, yes, he crowned all 28 of my teeth!
I was impressed with Dr. Song's gentle and caring nature from the very first appointment. Because of Dr. Song's concern and professional approach for both my dental needs and my personal well being, I am a very happy man.

I went to Dr. Song this summer because I'd been unhappy with my smile for a long time, as both the top and bottom teeth were slightly crooked. I didn't have the time to put into braces but was nervous about the idea of veneers as I've often seem them look unnatural, too large, or so different from a person's original smile that they drastically alter the person's overall appearance. I was very relieved during my consultation with Dr. Song, as he made his first priority giving me the exact smile that I wanted, and listened to all of my worries and specific requests. I was BEYOND thrilled with the final outcome, my teeth are exactly how I always wanted them to be, but they still look like they're my own teeth. They blend in so naturally nobody would ever be able to tell they were veneers. Also, after receiving my temporary veneers I had difficulty keeping them intact as I have a terrible teeth grinding habit at night, and repeatedly broke them during my sleep. Dr. Song and his entire office was incredibly friendly about helping me with this problem, they repeatedly setup emergency appointments for me to come in and fixed the veneers I had broken, free of charge. They never denied me an appointment, no matter how last minute it was, even if it meant having to interrupt Dr. Song's already busy schedule, I'm sure most doctors wouldn't have done this. This has been without a doubt the best experience I've ever had with a dentist and I'll most certainly be returning for any future work I need done.

The dentures that Dr. Song made for me were very comfortable and look just like my own natural teeth. Dr. Song's devotion to the patient is outstanding. Whatever procedure is done is precise and makes the patient very comfortable. The staff works like clockwork, very efficiently and effectively, and my appointments start on time. I'm very satisfied with my dental treatment. The staff is always very friendly and courteous and I enjoy coming into the office.

I usually go to the dentist just for cleanings, and occasionally for something like a filling. As soon as I went to the office I saw how organized and welcoming the office staff is, and as I spoke with Dr. Song I really liked how he treated me, I could feel how honest and proficient he is. This encouraged me to let him take care of my cavities, and even to re do some older, sub-par dental work. I have never felt any pain after my visits with Dr. Song. I also appreciate his staff, including his assistant Francis and front desk staff. They helped me a lot with my insurance and always kept me updated.

Seriously, what can I say but Thank You for all the work you've done with my teeth. They look and feel great, and your patience and willingness to keep working on them till I was completely satisfied is much appreciated. I'm more than happy to give you and your team the strongest of references, and you can feel free to send anyone my way who has any questions.

After breaking a veneer on my front tooth, I decided to replace all of my veneers with crowns. It had been 15 plus years since I had the initial veneers applied and wanted the newer, better product on my teeth. While it was a somewhat time consuming procedure because of the amount of teeth involved, Dr. Song made the experience absolutely wonderful along with the rest of the office staff. Dr. Song is very meticulous, thorough and obviously takes great pride in his craftsmanship. He’s also a nice guy! I have a beautiful smile thanks to Dr. Song.
